Using Technology to Improve Parent-Teacher Communication

Establishing a clear line of communication between teachers and parents is essential to the success of students. Effective communication helps foster supportive, and understanding parents who won't feel the need to corner the teacher every-time they see them to discuss their child’s progress. It is very important to keep parents in the loop with concerns before things snowball out of control,  you can build trust by keeping parents in the know with proactive communication.

Parent teacher communication with technology has become more popular over the years, but especially within the last two due to the pandemic. While this form of communication can be beneficial and time saving which is a pro. It can also be a con in the sense that because teachers are communicating through technology which can be done at any time, parents seem to get the line blurred with boundaries. However the pros outweigh the cons when using technology to communicate with parents and legal guardians.

You Can Improve Parent-Teacher Communication

Whether you use email, text, Google classroom, or a more comprehensive classroom management system to engage with parents, you can improve parent teacher communication with classroom technology. The goal is to establish a clear line of communication, maximize parent trust with keeping them in the loop, minimize parent entitlement, and reinforce student accountability. Parents will appreciate your professionalism and respect your boundaries more.
